US Indoor Champs - 2024

This was my first time attending this prestigious event.  Parts of it were extremely overwhelming, including the highly technical track layout.  While other parts of the event were just casually hanging out with friends.  New people were met, and friendships were made.  Looking forward to seeing everyone at the next.

Some of our very own attended this event and we are proud of all our racers.

Paxton Herman

USGT – Paxton managed to pull off an A-main start qualifying 7th overall.  He ran into a little bad luck, getting dumped twice in the main, but rebounded to a 9th place finish.  Great Job P-Money!

Stock Touring - Paxton was competing against a large pool of sharks.  These guys can wheel a car around a track, check out the video’s online and on Facebook and watch for yourself.  Paxton managed to qualify 41st overall putting him at the 1st starting position of the D-main.  He ran a great race and finished 2nd with a very impressive run.

Modified Touring – This was Paxton’s first-time running Mod at a large event and put on a show.  He qualified 10th in the B-main but ran a nice clean race finishing 6th.

He should be very proud of his performance.  I know one, I am very proud of this man and the way he carries himself on and off the drivers stand.  Paxton, all the One Eighth Racers are proud of you and glad you are one of us!

David Dunn

1/12 Stock – David ran some impressive qualifiers, just could not overcome the bad luck.  He managed an 8th place starting position in the C-main but could not escape the bad luck dropping him to a 9th place finish.  Obviously, not the finish he was aiming for, but David ran a very impressive race none-the-less.

25.5 Touring – David did an awesome job in a very stacked field making the C-main.  He qualified 26th out of 56 entries, landing him 6th starting position on the starting grid.  He was able to pick up 1 spot finishing 5th.  Congratulations David on a job well done!

David Brock

VTA – First 2 rounds of qualifying were rough.  I was having trouble getting around the layout and keeping the car off the corner dots.  I felt like I literally hit everything but the pace car.  But, once the dust settled and qualifying was done, I was sitting 8th in the C-main.  I knew I had my work cut out for me, if I wanted to make anything of this race.  There was a pile up on the first lap that I was able to navigate through landing me in the 4th position.  I did not turn the fastest lap of the main, but ran a nice consistent race remaining in 4th place.

25.5 Touring – Being the highly competitive class this is, I had my hands full.  The car felt great, just did not have the talent to compete with all the top dogs.  I managed to qualify 51 out of 56, landing my P1 in the F-main.  At the sound of the tone, we took off.  Nerves got the best of me and tapped the wall in the first corner.  I dropped to 4th but managed to climb my way back to 2nd on the 2nd lap.  A few laps later with some good luck, I was running 1st again.  On lap 17, I dropped the ball and fell to 2nd.  Congrats to the winner, he ran a great race.  Not the finish I was hoping for, but one of the more fun races of the week.

Stock Touring – This is the class where I was a baby seal in a shark pool.  The sharks were hungry and aggressive.  I was sitting at the very bottom at 47 out of 47 entries.  I could just not get comfortable driving the car.  But, going into the main, I was just going to get what I could.  Learning from my past starts of the event, I made sure to have a clean first lap.  Due to some good fortune, I went from 7th to 4th in the first lap.  I ran the car as smooth as I could and caught up to 3rd.  Ran nose to tail with the 3rd place car until they made a small tap allowing me to get by.  I was able to keep my 3rd place at the finish of the race.

All in all, our drivers did a great job in all the races.  When you see them in the pits or on the track, make sure to congratulate them.  Job well done, One Eighth Racers!
